Standing, teeth and new friends!

Piper has really mastered crawling and is now working on standing. She can pull up on something, let go and stand for up to a minute. She can even move her arms around before eventually falling. She walks from one object to another and can even do it one-handed. We are waiting each day for her to take her first unassisted step - it could truly be any day now.

Thankfully, she is now sleeping through the night consistently with only brief awakenings during the night. We are ALL thankful for this! She also now plays herself to sleep...

She has started pointing a lot and using her "pincer" grasp to pick things up, which is big stuff in a baby's world. She can pick up small things now too, which is fun for her. She has started to realize that things will go in directions and move in ways she never realized. The dishwasher is her favorite new toy as things go up and down, in and out and can bang really loudly if she tries hard enough...

She has two teeth now and likes to use them to explore new objects and chew up new foods. She eats a lot of things now, including vanilla pudding, vegetable soup, real chicken, Nilla Wafers, Ritz Crackers, steamed brocolli, bread and basically any baby food. She is currently on the verge of another tooth because we are at level orange for drool at our house.

We celebrated Father's Day here in Texas with gifts and an outing on the boat. Piper gave Kurt a trailer for the back of his bike so she can join him on bike rides. Kurt was very excited about it and we tried it out immediately. Although we had a bumpy start, Piper enjoyed her ride and was asleep by the time we got home. We rode last weekend as well and again, she slept!

Last weekend, we had Kurt's birth brother Mark, his wife Val and their baby Olivia visit. Olivia is only 2 weeks younger than Piper so we had a great time watching them interact and comparing their growth. Olivia is almost talking with what sounds like "hola" down pat thanks to her bi-lingual parents and a week with her Spanish speaking extended family.

We had fun spending time together and catching up. We swam in the pool, took the girls on a bike ride and gave Piper her first ride on a swing (Olivia is already a pro at this!). Piper LOVED it, so I'm sure there will be many hours spent swinging this summer.

The weekend ended with Amy & Kurt going out to dinner and a comedy show, while our friends April & Jason Ott took care of Piper. They have a son, Ryan, who is about 3 months younger than Piper, so they had a fun time playing together.

Visit to Oma & Pop's

Piper has been a world traveller lately...after a trip to D.C. (see previous post) she went to stay for over a week with Amy's parents - Oma and Pop (Vickey & Mike).
She had a great time and despite the fatigue they experienced based on Piper's energy level and continued night wakings, so did Oma and Pop! She had a lot of firsts while she was there - she cut her first two teeth (on the bottom), had her first boat ride, first jet ski ride and her first swim in the lake.
She also got to visit with her aunt Nicky and great-grandma Wylene.

Somehow, Oma was able to get Piper to wear these sunglasses - at least long enough for a picture...

We had a great time on our cruise - we went for 7 days and travelled to Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. We liked Aruba and St. Maarten the best, but they were all beautiful. We enjoyed peaceful, sleep filled nights and gorgeous weather and sunshine during the day. We owe Amy's parents big time for this! Our trip included sailing, snorkeling (several times), a pirate ship, rope swinging and parasailing.
