16 months old!

In an attempt to keep this blog manageable, I have decided to start updating it once a month.

So, January - what an exciting month! Amy celebrated a birthday and Piper learned new tricks! One of her newest tricks is saying words. She has been babbling for some time now and has been saying some words for quite a while, but it seems that lately she has been saying more. She now clearly says "Daddy" and "Thank You". Just last week she started saying "Mama" and actually used it yesterday because she couldn't see where I was. This is very exciting for me (Amy).

Piper's obsession with body parts continues as well. She is now intimately familiar with not only her own belly button but the belly buttons of many others. The eyes, nose, ears and mouth seem next on the list to conquer.

Piper had Cowboy/Cowgirl dress-up day at school one Friday (only in Texas...). She looked super cute in her pink cowboy boots and plaid skirt.

Piper really enjoys fingerpainting, so I have decided to start doing it with her at home. The paint is easy to wash out of clothes, but we put on one of Kurt's old t-shirts just to be safe. I think she gets more on her body than she does the paper.

It has been pretty cold here lately, so Piper got a chance to wear all of her "real" winter clothes. It even snowed one day and school was out so Piper got to stay home with Amy. She LOVED the snow! She especially liked the crunching sound it made under her boots. She stomped back and forth all over the place.

One of the most exciting things that has happened lately is that Piper is starting to use utensils when she eats. No more monkey eating (and throwing) but this method seems to be just as messy. She loves to eat with her spoon and we are using the "scoop it and eat it" voice coach, fingers crossed praying that the majority of the food ends up in her mouth method, but as you can see, it doesn't always work out that way. It's really funny though and she thinks it is so fun and she is very proud of herself when she is successful.

We hope you had a great January too!

Happy New Year!

We had an exciting and fun-filled Christmas and hope you did too! Piper had a Christmas party at her school where they "decorated" cookies. It's more like they decorated themselves, but they all had a great time.

Piper has become very fond of stickers lately, so we have all ended up with stickers everywhere. Even the dogs get sticker put on them. She also enjoys putting lids on anything that needs one, stacking things and hiding things. I recently found a shoe in a pan underneath the stove!

We drove to Tennessee to visit with Amy's family for Christmas. It was a long car ride, but we all did pretty well - the dogs included. We had tons of toys and activities for Piper during the drive, so she was entertained. Note the sticker on her car seat tray...nothing is safe...

Piper had a good time at Christmas and got tons of fun gifts - thanks to everyone who gave her a gift - they came in handy during the car ride! Amy's aunt Laura, uncle Dale and Amy's cousin Katie and Katie's husband Mike came at Christmas. We enjoyed seeing them and were happy to introduce Piper to them. We also got to see Amy's sister Nicky in from Hawaii. Piper enjoyed all the attention she got while we were there even though she started cutting two big teeth!
